Attack of the Ad Monster

Well, they say things don’t last forever, and I guess my sweet web hosting deal is one of them. Funpic.org has now decided to place forced ads on its members websites. Unfortunately, they are offering no system for members to customize, change, or remove the ads. No donation programs, nothing. Just BAM! you now have ads. :(

Unfortunately, the content of the ads is generated by Google’s site keywords system, which means because this is a WoW site, guess what I get forced into: ads for the sale of in-game gold. I have already complained to funpic about this garbage and am waiting for a response. In the meantime, I am searching for another free php host. (If you know of a good one, please reply!)

Until I can get this mess straightened out, I sincerely apologize to my visitors for subjecting them to such crap. At least they don’t seem to show up every visit to the site, but for these types of ads, even once is too much.

On the other hand, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. If forced to relocate, it might give me some incentive to revamp and improve the site. (Apologies for having let it go so long without an update!)

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for a good outcome. I don’t want to change web hosts, and I don’t have a lot of cash to pay for a host... not with the amount of traffic I get! That means if I can’t find a free ad-less php host, and if funpic refuses to compromise on the ad situation, this site may be shutting down for good. I refuse to aid the gold sellers and gold farmers. If that means shutting this site down, so be it.

(Damn. Now I’m all pissed off. Time for lunch... maybe it will help me simmer down a bit.)

Well, I cancelled my World of Warcraft account as of a few weeks ago. This site will remain online as a (hopefully) useful resource to those who still play WoW. I just kinda lost interest in the game and have moved on to other things. I may return for the expansion, who knows?
